Welcome to the LAST Ireland training module on European and Irish legislation (Module 1 of the common education and training framework for the EU to fulfil the requirements under Articles 23 and 24 of Directive 2010/63/EU on the protection of animals used for scientific purposes).
This training module is designed to be taken by people who need to use animals for scientific research in Ireland and who have already completed an approved training course that does NOT include a module on the implementation of Directive 2010/63/EU in Ireland by SI 543 of 2012 and the administration of the SI by the Health Products Regulatory Authority (HPRA), which is the Competent Authority in Ireland.
Taking the course consists of:-
- Study of the course material in your own time approx 3 hours
- Successful completion of an examination multiple choice questionnaire (MCQ) taken under full exam conditions. The pass mark is 70%.
A certificate, which is acceptable to the HPRA, will be issued by LAST Ireland on successful completion of the examination.

When you have studied the material and you are ready to do the assessment please
email sec@last-Ireland.ie to arrange an exam. You may sit an examination in conjunction with the general exams being given on the dates indicated on the LAST-Ireland website, or individually for an additional fee of €50.
We do a distance proctoring whereby you sit the exam at your own computer via zoom
